Bud Black is San Diego Padres New Manager
Bud Black has replaced Bruce Bocy as the new manager for San Diego Padres. With this new assignment, Bud Black who is Los Angeles Angels’ pitching coach, has just received his first major league managing job.
Bud Black who lives in Rancho Santa Fe which is just north of San Diego has reduced his commuting time to work and does not have to relocate with his family.
San Diego Padres CEO, Sandy Alderson, informed that Black was offered the position which he accepted on Tuesday, November 7, 2006. However, the deal is still being finalized the CEO is mum about the duration of the contract. Black will be formally introduced as the new manager at the Padres award banquet.
For the last seven seasons, Black, 49 years old, has been the pitching coach for Los Angeles Angels. He was part of the winning team in 1985 when Kansas City Royals won the World Series. He pitched 15 seasons in big league.
According to Angels manager, Mike Scioscia, Black’s knowledge of baseball and his ability to communicate had made him a much sort after person the last couple of years. While the CEO of Padres felt that Black understood what they were trying to achieve at San Diego and he had the right set of qualities to help them achieve it.
Black along with five others was interviewed by Kevin Towers, General Manager of San Diego Padres, before Black was interviewed a second time by the owner, John Moores, and the CEO. One of the leading contenders for the job was Dusty Baker who could not conceal his disappointment on not receiving the job but was all praise for Bud Black.
